Miami Dolphins vs. Oakland Raiders

Where: Historic Wembley Stadium in London, England

When: Sunday, September 28- 1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: This game features two of the worst offenses in the NFL through the first three weeks of the season. Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is dead last among starting quarterbacks with 5.03 yards per attempt, while in Oakland, with rookie Derek Carr at quarterback, the Raiders are averaging a league-low 12.3 points per game. Needless to say, you shouldn’t expect any offensive fireworks from these two.

To make matters worse for the Dolphins, they have significant injury concerns this week. Most notably, TE Charles Clay and WR Mike Wallace are listed as questionable, while RB Knowshon Moreno is still out with that pesky elbow injury.

While the Dolphins may be forced to contend with missing their best offensive pieces, Oakland’s star running back Maurice Jones-Drew should be back this week to pair with the always dangerous, Darren McFadden. This should be Oakland’s week.

Pick: Oakland- 20 Miami-10     BF

Detroit Lions at New York Jets

Where: MetLife Stadium-East Rutherford, New Jersey

When: Sunday, September 28-1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: This Lions defense is markedly improved from last year’s as evidenced by their 3rd-ranked pass defense and 2nd-ranked run defense. The Jets, meanwhile, rank 1st against the run. That being said, the Lions are not a running football team. With Matthew at quarterback and the great Calvin Johnson at wide receiver, would you run the ball? Especially against this defense?

Look for Stafford to come out of the gate firing this week, attacking the banged-up Jets secondary. Expect a huge game from Johnson whose 165 yards over the last two games are only one more than he had week one against the Giants. He’s due for a breakout game.

Pick: Lions-27 Jets-13     BF

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears

Where: Soldiers Field- Chicago, Illinois

When: Sunday, September 28-1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: This figures to be one of the most exciting games of the weekend with two huge rivals squaring off.

Don’t expect a defensive brawl here. A weak Green Bay defense will have its hands full with this Chicago offense. QB Jay Cutler simply has too many options. With two top-ten receivers in Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey, arguably the best pass-catching back in the league in Matt Forte, and a huge red zone threat in TE Martellus Bennett, there just isn’t a way to guard everything.  However, this Aaron Rodgers-led Packers offense is no slouch either. Jordy Nelson is a top receiver in his own right, and pairing him with Randall Cobb creates a nightmare duo for the Chicago secondary.

Simply put, Green Bay needs an 80 yard performance from RB Eddie Lacy in order to win this game. He has not been able to get it going at all this year, and he was vital to the team’s success last season. If he doesn’t reach at least 80 yards, it could mean one of two things. One, he’s not effective, and the Packers are forced to rely on Starks as their running back. Two, the Packers are down early and are forced to abandon the running game entirely. Neither of these scenarios bodes well for Green Bay.

Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans  

Where: NRG Stadium- Houston, Texas

When: Sunday, September 28-1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick faces off with his old team after throwing three interceptions last week against the Giants. However, things didn’t go much better for his replacement in Buffalo, second year player, E.J. Manuel, who was only 21 out of 49 in a 22-10 loss to  the Chargers.

Both teams are looking to rebound this week. The Texans in particular are hoping to avoid losing and mirroring last season’s travesty when they started the season with two wins only to lose 14 straight to close out the year.

Look for a big game from Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins and veteran running back C.J. Spiller, both Clemson alumni.

Pick: Bills-17 Texans-14     BF

Carolina Panthers at Baltimore Ravens

Where: M&T Bank Stadium- Baltimore, Maryland

When: Sunday, September 28- 1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: WR Steve Smith battles his former team of 13 seasons in what should be a tightly contested game. The normally stout Carolina defense led by superstar linebacker Luke Kuechly gave up 37 points to Pittsburgh last week, and to make matters worse, QB Cam Newton didn’t look nearly 100 percent. This is bad news facing a strong Baltimore team led by QB Joe Flacco.

Don’t expect Carolina to give up 37 points this week, but also, don’t assume that the Pittsburgh game was a fluke and that they’ll immediately return to their 2013 form. Something’s off in Carolina, and it has a lot to do with the Greg Hardy controversy and the Cam Newton injury.

Pick: Ravens- 24 Panthers-17     BF

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts

Where: Lucas Oil Stadium- Indianapolis, Indiana

When: Sunday, September 28- 1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: This Colts passing offense is a force to be reckoned with, ranking 3rd in the league. Andrew Luck was absolutely sensational last week against the Jaguars, throwing for 370 yards and four touchdowns. If he can continue that high level of play, the Titans won’t have a chance, especially with the uncertainty at the quarterback position due to Jake Locker’s injured wrist. It is not yet known if he will be able to suit up.

Another positive sign for the Colts is the emergence of a running game, something they didn’t have much of last year. This year, Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw appear to have found a groove, making this offense all the more dangerous.

With all of the question marks surrounding the availability of Locker, TE Delanie Walker, and TE Taylor Thompson, the Titans could have a tough time scoring, even against this pedestrian Colts defense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Pittsburgh Steelers

Where: Heinz Field- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

When: Sunday, September 28- 1:00 PM ET

Scouting Report: The Steelers offense have developed a solid offensive trio in Roethlisberger, Brown, and Bell. Pittsburgh is coming off a convincing 37-19 win over Carolina last week, while the Bucs have seem to be heading in the opposite direction with a 56-14 thrashing at the hands of the Falcons last week.

The Bucs offense is not getting the job done, ranking last in the league in passing yards. Look for struggling Doug Martin and company to be a non-factor this week against an improving Steelers team. Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown have both been top three options in their respective positions so far this year. Pittsburgh is first in the NFL in rushing yards at 163.3 yards per game, and certainly don’t expect the Bucs defense to stop that or the big play potential of Roethlisberger and Brown this Sunday. The Steelers should roll over Tampa Bay this Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers

Where: Qualcomm Stadium- San Diego,  California

When: Sunday, September 28- 4:05 PM ET

Scouting Report: San Diego has been fantastic his season, dropping a tough 18-17 loss to Arizona, but grabbing great wins against defending champs Seattle and a mediocre Bills team. Key injuries to running backs Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead have created an awful running game in San Diego, led by Donald Brown. Defense and quarterback play have been great thus far for the Chargers, however. Philip Rivers has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league so far. He is sixth in the league in completion percentage at 68.4 percent, third in the league with a passer rating of 108.3, and has thrown 6 TD’s and just 1 INT. Rivers has been phenomenal this season, and nothing should be different against a terrible Jaguars team with rookie Blake Bortles getting his first career start. Expect the Chargers to roll past Jacksonville with ease.

Pick: Chargers-38 Jaguars-6     EK

Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings

Where: TCF Bank Stadium- Minneapolis, Minnesota

When: Sunday, September 28- 4:25 PM ET

Scouting Report: The Falcons come into this after demolishing Tampa Bay 56-14 last week. The Falcons defense forced 5 turnovers, Matt Ryan went 21-24 with 286 yards and 3 TD, and Julio Jones caught 9 balls for 161 yards and 2 TD. The Falcons lead the league in passing yards per game, and have done very well so far this year, beating New Orleans and losing to a fantastic Cincinnati team.

Vikings rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater will get his first career start in this game, replacing injured Matt Cassel. If he can get this offense going, led by explosive wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, then the Vikings can keep this game a close one. Their defense has been solid this year, and should get some good stops against Atlanta’s great offense. Ultimately, Atlanta is the more talented team and should be able to break away in this one, but look for Minnesota to keep this game relatively close throughout.

Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers

Where: Levi’s Stadium- San Francisco, California

When: Sunday, September 28- 4:25 PM ET

Scouting Report: This is a great matchup with two very talented teams squaring off in what should be the game of the week. San Francisco has not been living up to expectation this year. They lost to Chicago in week 2 and Arizona in week 3, and are 21st in the league in total offense. Their defense, led by Patrick Willis with 20 tackles and 1 INT, and Justin Smith with 3 sacks, has been above average during their first three games.

In sort of opposite fashion from San Fran, the Eagles have had great offense and sub par defense this year. Foles has been good this year, and look for McCoy to recover from a dismal performance against Washington last week, rushing 19 times for 22 yards. Sproles has proven to be a great option for the Eagles offense, and rookie WR Jordan Mathews, along with WR Jeremy Maclin, has been great so far. The Eagles, defense, however, has been lackluster, giving up 34 points to the Redskins last week. The Niners offense has to recover at some point, and this should be the week. Kaepernick should play very well against this Eagles defense, and look for San Francisco to beat the Eagles in a high scoring, exhilarating NFC matchup.

New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys

Where: AT&T Stadium- Arlington, Texas

When: Sunday, September 28- 8:30 PM ET

Scouting Report: This has all the makings to be a great Sunday Night Football matchup. The key to the Cowboys success so far has been RB Demarco Murray. He leads the NFL in rushing yards with 385, and has led this team to a 2-1 record. Coming into the season, people projected the Cowboys defense to be one of the worst defenses in NFL history. Through three games, they’ve held their own, holding Tennessee to 10 points in week two.

This game will be a different story, however. The Cowboys won’t be able to contain Drew Brees and his offense on Sunday Night, and in another high-scoring game, look for the Saints to run over the Cowboys defense and come away with a victory here, pushing them back to .500 and setting the track for what should be more success throughout the season.

Pick: New Orleans- 41 Dallas- 28     EK

New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs

Where: Arrowhead Stadium- Kansas City, Missouri

When: Monday, September 29- 8:30 PM ET

Scouting Report: After a brutal defeat to the Titans in Week 1, in which nothing went right for the Kansas City, the Chiefs have recovered, losing by just seven to Denver and beating a decent Miami team 35-16. Star running back Jamaal Charles is questionable for this game with an ankle injury, and if he can play and get some carries, it would be a huge help for a Kansas City team going up against a Patriots team led by veteran leader Tom Brady on Monday Night Football. Offense has been sluggish for the Patriots, who only scored 16 points in a win against an inferior Oakland team last week. Their sloppy offensive performance last week along with a loss against Miami in Week 1 add up to a shaky start for this New England team that many project to go far in the playoffs this year. Tom Brady and this offense won’t be close to spectacular this week, but they should be able to get the job done and get out of Kansas City with a close, ugly win.
