Victoria Waldron placed 3rd in the annual Regional Shakespeare Competition last Sunday. After winning her class and grade-level contests, as well as the school-wide competition the week before, Waldron vied for a spot in the national competition in New York City.
All the competitors on Sunday performed the same monologue that they had memorized for their school contests, as well as a sonnet. Waldron’s monologue, in which she played Trinculo, was taken from The Tempest Act II, scene I; her sonnet, number 116, is one of the most well known.
Waldron and nine other high schoolers presented their monologues and sonnets to a myriad panel of judges, and were evaluated on everything from their vocal inflection to hand gestures.
Senior Jenny Wicks was the runner up in the school competition; Anthony Rossi and Lucy Abrahams represented the sophomore and freshman class, respectively.
