Cross Country Successes

Alexandre Demoly

So, what do you think of when you hear “fall sports”? Football? Soccer? Maybe even golf? Sure, those are all great choices, but what about that other group? Yes, there is another. Think harder. What do you mean you can’t remember? Fine I’ll tell you: our fourth fall sport is Cross-Country. “Oh yeah, those guys!” you’re probably thinking. “That’s cool, but don’t they just run a lot? It doesn’t sound too fun!” Well, sure, it does hurt (especially when Coach makes us do the Michigan Run. I won’t talk about it too much because it brings up too many bad memories…), but it is well worth it and actually is fun, usually. Running with your friends is a great thing: you get to talk and joke around, all while seeing parts of Albany you didn’t know existed. Plus, the faster you run, the stronger you get.

What is my point? My point is that what we do is amazing. We have a great team this year. This year was the first time the boys’ team beat Ichabod Crane since they joined the Colonial Council twelve years ago. They joined the Albany Academy football, soccer, and golf team in beating Ichabod in every fall sport this year! On Saturday, October 11, we raced in the Burnt Hills Cross Country Invitational at the Saratoga Spa State Park. There were tons of runners, many of them from downstate and even out-of-state. However, in both the boys’ and girls’ teams, we had two runners finish in the top 10 and six finish in the top 50 in their respective races. As we move forward into the last leg of the season, I would like to thank both teams for their incredible effort and motivation and wish them the best of luck for the future.
