The culminating event of the 2009-2010 wrestling season — the Section II Class D Sectional Tournament — took place on Saturday in Warrensburg. The Academy team did significantly better this year than last, when only George Featherstonhaugh qualified for the next round. This year, however, eight Academy wrestlers placed in the top six in their respective weight classes:

Kyle DiCaprio (senior, 135-lb): 2nd place

David Buran (senior captain, 152-lb): 3rd place

Renel Potter (senior, 189-lb): 3rd place

Stuart Curtis (junior captain, 171-lb): 3rd place

Cameron Milliken (8th grader, 103-lb): 3rd place

George Featherstonhaugh (senior captain, 140-lb): 4th place

Mory Gueye (sophomore, 285-lb): 5th place

Tommy Welles (sophomore, 130-lb): 5th place

The six wrestlers who placed in the top four (DiCaprio, Buran, Potter, Curtis, Milliken, and Featherstonhaugh) also qualified for the Section II Regional Tournament, to be held this Friday and Saturday in Glens Falls.

The team is thrilled at the obvious improvement since last year, and hopes to continue its success this weekend.
