Halfway Through Season, AA Wrestling 10-5

Halfway+Through+Season%2C+AA+Wrestling+10-5

The AA wrestling team has had a busy winter season so far, finishing up 2010 with an overall record of 10-5 (including dual tournament matches) and a Colonial Council record of 3-1 (including only league dual matches).

On December 8th the team won its home opener against Ichabod Crane 52-35, and then participated in the Columbia Duals the weekend of the 10th – 11th. Over the course of the two-day tournament, Academy beat Johnstown 48-27, CBA 53-18, Lansingburgh 49-32, Tamarac 44-42, and lost to Columbia’s B team 40-39, to Columbia’s A team 72-15, and to Shaker 66-15. The Cadets finished the tournament in 4th place. Although the team lost to Cobleskill 45-36 the next week, they redeemed themselves at our own AA Dual Tournament on December 18th. They placed second among five teams, beating Burke Catholic 39-24, CBA 58-12 and Schoharie 44-42; the team lost only to Bethlehem, 48-30. In the last match of the year on December 22nd, the Cadets beat Voorheesville 51-16.

Looking ahead, the team faces Watervliet (away) this Thursday the 6th, and will participate in the Warrensburg Duals this Saturday. The next home match is on the 12th against Schalmont. Senior captain Stuart Curtis — who is still undefeated at 18-0 halfway through the season — says, “It’s been a long year, and the team has improved since the beginning of the season. We’re hoping to do well at the upcoming tournaments, including the Berger Duals, Essex Tournament, and the Big 10 [at Albany High]. We worked hard over winter break, and some alumni came to help us out, as well as the Voorheesville and Albany High teams. We look to finish the year strong at the Class D sectional tournament.”
