Wrestling Season Comes to a Close

The state-qualifying wrestling tournament was held last weekend in Glens Falls. Two of the six wrestlers who had qualified for the tournament the weekend before also placed in the top six of their weight-class at the state-qualifiers.  Out of the 35 teams that competed in Section II, senior Renel Potter placed 4th in the 189-lb weight class, and senior Kyle DiCaprio took 3rd place in the 135-lb weight class. The Academy team also placed 11th overall in the section.

Although none of the wrestlers qualified for the state tournament (only the top wrestler in each weight class continues to states), the team was obviously proud of its numerous achievements and improvements this year, and justifiably so. Although six seniors will be graduating this spring, Coach Buran is confident that between new wrestlers joining the team and the returning wrestlers improving, the program will be just as strong next year.
