Concert for a Cure 2013

Concert for a Cure 2013

Concert for a Cure at The Albany Academies was held on Friday, November 22nd in the Caird Chapel. Held annually in memory of Sol Kahn ‘06, this years event raised $1,411 to aid the efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.

The Concert was hosted by Director of Events Tom Bowden ‘14 (as the MC) and Olcott House. Their hard work behind the scenes led to an entertaining, lively concert filled with talented performers. “This concert was the best one I have ever been to in my ten years at this school,” said A.J. Stair ‘14, “I’ve never had this much fun before. Starting the giant moshpit was definitely one of my top ten high school moments”.

The dancing started during the faculty band’s performance. Made up of Mr. Milliken, Mrs. Anetzberger, Mr. Welsh, Mr. Mextorf, Mr. Johnson, and friends, they covered many popular songs that brought a smile to every face and a dance to everyone’s step. Their performance this year was inspiring.

But the highlight of the night had to be the finale, led by members of the faculty band in collaboration with the Upper School Student Council, Dean of Students Mr. McIver and Director of Admissions Mr. MacDonald. Their cover performance of Chantilly Lace, a famous 50’s rock song, had the audience laughing and dancing. Tom Bowden played the part of the Big Bopper along with Evan Mextorf, who both sang and danced with Mr. McIver and Mr. MacDonald, who were dressed up as girls, while the faculty band and the other three members of the Student Council acted as backup dancers and musicians. “The finale definitely makes my list of the top five moments I’ve had at this school”, said Evan later after the hilarious performance.

Overall, this year’s Concert for a Cure was a cut above the ones that were held in the past. There was a lot more participation and attendance this year than before, thanks to everyone who participated and volunteered for making this event the best it could be.
